Legendary Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has issued a bold claim regarding sensational Barcelona star Lamine Yamal.

Evra’s claim

Speaking to ESPN, Evra discussed Yamal’s rise, with the winger poised to lead Spain in the summer’s World Cup tournament in North America.

Yamal has risen to become one of the world’s top players. With his quick feet and bag of tricks, he has mesmerised audiences and earned a reputation as one of football’s greatest entertainers.

The Spaniard has proven to be a handful for defenders but Evra is confident he would have locked him up if they had met during his prime at United.

Asked about Yamal, the Frenchman said, “I’m sorry Lamine, I love you very much, I like you a lot, you are a crack in one-vs-one situations.”

“But in my prime I would have eaten you alive.”

Evra continued, “Ask Cristiano Ronaldo, ask Messi, ask other players when they faced me. I am not a good friend.”

Evra enjoyed an incredibly successful eight-year stint at United, having joined the English giants from AS Monaco in a deal worth around £5.5m.

A key figure under the iconic Sir Alex Ferguson, Evra won 14 major trophies during his time at Old Trafford, including five Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.

He made 379 appearances for the Red Devils, contributing 10 goals and 30 assists. He played alongside Ronaldo at United, while he came up against Messi numerous times in the Champions League.

Evra may be known today as a hilarious and bubbly personality, but on the pitch he was a no-nonsense defender who rarely allowed attackers to gain the upper hand.

A clash between him and Yamal would undoubtedly have been spectacular.
