Patrick Bamford has been revitalised at Sheffield United under Chris Wilder, yet his short-term contract is nearing its end and his next step remains open.
A report on Patreon claims Ipswich Town and Kieran McKenna are monitoring his situation and could move if he does not sign an extension. His current deal runs to this weekend’s FA Cup third round tie with Mansfield, after which he would be a free agent unless terms are agreed. Ipswich were a direct rival for Leeds and Daniel Farke in 2023-24.
Bamford, 32, left Elland Road after promotion to the Premier League, ending a seven-year stay. He terminated his contract with a year remaining, then spent months unattached amid links to Celtic, MLS and Getafe, and trained with Frank Lampard’s Coventry City.
Following Wilder’s return for a third spell, Sheffield United signed him on a free. He has scored five goals in 10 Championship appearances across almost 500 minutes, having put previous differences with Wilder to one side.
Sheffield United want to keep him until the summer. Wilder said he is pushing to retain Bamford, though there is negotiation involved and his form could attract others. He added the short-term deal was Bamford’s preference rather than the club withholding a longer offer.
Sheffield United are 16th in the Championship, nine points off the play-offs. Ipswich sit third, two behind Middlesbrough.
