Despite no minutes for Denver Summit in the United States, Pauline Peyraud-Magnin retains Laurent Bonadei’s trust and, barring a late injury, is set to start for France against the Netherlands in Breda at 20:45, which would mark her 75th cap.
According to L'Équipe, she trained at Rat Verlegh Stadium on the eve of the game with Constance Picaud-Inconnu and Mylène Chavas under goalkeeping coach Lionel Letizi, worked individually for a spell, then joined the opposition before finishing in goal.
Bonadei has settled the goalkeeper hierarchy with Peyraud-Magnin as No 1, though she remains well short of Sarah Bouhaddi’s 149 caps. She missed the match in Ireland on 3 March, which finished 2-1, with a slight issue, and Constance Picaud-Inconnu deputised before returning to the bench for Poland on 7 March, which finished 4-1.
Weeks after former Juventus keeper Peyraud-Magnin signed for the new Denver franchise, her eighth professional club, she has yet to play. Bonadei accepts she is happy in Denver but not playing, calls the situation complicated, and says the France camp has helped after staff support and conversations early in the week.
At 34, alongside Griedge Mbock, 31, Sakina Karchaoui, 30, and Kadidiatou Diani, 31, she is among the few over 30 in a refreshed squad, and her experience is prized. Bonadei stresses he has three good goalkeepers and prioritises experience, adding that a long-term lack of club minutes could be a psychological issue but he is not worried for now.
Captain Mbock underlines Peyraud-Magnin’s influence in the dressing room and her decisiveness, noting the group’s trust and her resilience through setbacks. She has another chance to show it tonight.
