Pedro’s pinch celebration after Flamengo’s 1-0 win over Estudiantes on Wednesday left supporters curious. After netting the winner, he hugged Jorginho and Paquetá and made a small sign with his right hand.
According to Globo.com, the gesture is an inside joke shared by the trio and means that if an opponent leaves even a tiny opening, they will be punished. Pedro often bows to the crowd or celebrates using Libras, so this different signal stood out in the Libertadores tie.
At the Maracanã, the match followed that script. After a combative first half with few chances, Flamengo seized their moment after the interval. With the hosts already on top, a Muslera error preceded a sharp finish from Pedro on 19 minutes of the second half.
He nudged the ball away from the defender, then shot early from a tight angle, having noticed the Uruguayan goalkeeper starts high. It was a clever centre-forward’s goal.
The strike was Pedro’s 18th of the season. He leads Flamengo’s scoring in 2026 and has four assists in 30 appearances.
Next up is Palmeiras at the Maracanã on Saturday at 21:00 in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
