Vincent Kompany is having a historic season at FC Bayern and it is precisely this that is now bringing up old connections. Speculation about a possible return to Manchester City continues unabated. Now even Pep Guardiola himself has commented on the matter – and caused a stir

The Spanish star coach made no secret of how highly he rates his former captain. „This guy will be our coach sooner or later,“ explained Guardiola, confirming earlier statements

It is clear to him that should Kompany decide to return to England at some point, the path will almost inevitably lead to Manchester City. „I’m pretty sure Manchester will be in his heart and in his head,“ Guardiola continued

According to Sport BILD, the Belgian is at the top of the Sky Blues‘ wish list should Guardiola leave the club in the summer

Despite these clear words, there is currently little to suggest a short-term switch. Kompany is still under long-term contract with FC Bayern until 2029 – and only recently made a conscious decision to take this step

Guardiola himself does not believe in an immediate transfer either, but rather speaks of a possible future perspective

At Säbener Straße, the speculation has been taken in stride, with CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen making it unmistakably clear that a departure is currently not an issue

He said he was „100 percent“ convinced that Kompany would stay at FC Bayern – not least because the 40-year-old had extended his contract and was aware of his decision

It is no coincidence that Kompany is being traded in this form at all. The successful coach has not only led Bayern back to the championship, but has also established a clear playing idea and an exceptional team dynamic

The team is united, hungry and tactically at the highest level – attributes that Guardiola also particularly appreciates

In the long term, it seems quite realistic that Kompany and Manchester City could cross paths at some point, but there is currently no reason to consider a move.
