One player who has been ever-present for Manchester City this season is Josko Gvardiol. In a season where Manchester City’s defenders have battled injury and poor form, the Croatian international has always been there for his team. His importance to Manchester City has grown as this season has progressed. He has now formed a strong centre-back pairing with Ruben Dias. Speaking ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League fixture against Southampton, Pep Guardiola has special praise for Josko Gvardiol.
Speaking during the embargoed section of his pre-game press conference ahead of Manchester City’s clash with Southampton, Pep Guardiola said that Josko Gvardiol has been pivotal to his team this season. Speaking on Gvardiol’s contribution this season, Guardiola said: “Josko has been the most important player we’ve had this season. Without Josko, it would be impossible to sustain. He’s reliable to play every three days in the good and bad moments, he’s been top.”
The 24/25 season has been a difficult one for Manchester City. They have fallen short of expectations as injuries and poor form have hit Pep Guardiola’s side throughout this season. But if you were to pick one player as City’s player of the season, Josko Gvardiol would be it.
The Croatian international has been ever-present for Pep Guardiola and his team this season. In all competitions, Gvardiol has made 49 appearances in all competitions. Gvardiol has scored 6 goals and added 2 assists this season. He has played at left-back, and more recently at centre-back. His versatility and quality as a player and a defender has been an important component of Manchester City’s play. Although, he has made errors on occasions this season, this season could have been a lot worse for Manchester City without Gvardiol’s availability and performances.
Josko Gvardiol has become one of, if not Manchester City’s most important player this season. Pep Guardiola pointed this out yesterday and the Croatian international was fully deserving of such high praise from his manager.
