Former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay sent a touching message to Jonny Evans as he retires from professional football.
Evans decided to finally call it a day, following the expiry of his contract with United.
He won three Premier League titles, the Champions League, FA Cup and two League Cups with United. Evans also won the FA Cup with Leicester City.
The 37-year-old won 107 caps for Northern Ireland and is widely considered one of his country’s greatest ever players.
Evans enjoyed two spells at Old Trafford, having come through the club’s esteemed youth system. He lined up for the Red Devils’ senior team between 2006 to 2015 before he left and joined West Brom.
After West Brom, Evans signed for Leicester and then returned to United in 2023.
He initially went back to United on a short-term deal during their pre-season build-up and in the process, earned himself a one-year deal before he signed a fresh extension, which expired this summer.
Evans played for the last time on Friday, during United’s 3-1 comeback win over Hong Kong.
McTominay likely got to know Evans better during the latter’s second stint at United, as they shared the dressing room for a year before McTominay made his move to Napoli.
Earlier on Sunday, McTominay wrote on Instagram, “You are one of the best players, characters and professionals I have had the pleasure to play alongside.”
“Very fortunate to share some amazing memories with you.”
“An incredible career and I wish you nothing but the best in your retirement. (Other than when we play golf).”
It’s evident that Evans left a lasting impression on McTominay.
