Piquerez returned to Brazil on Saturday to begin rehabilitation with Palmeiras after spraining his right ankle during this international window.

According to Globo.com, the left-back started for Uruguay against England and was replaced after 12 minutes following a challenge with forward Madueke.

He received treatment on the pitch, then left in tears on a stretcher. An initial assessment by Uruguay’s staff found a ligament injury without rupture or bone fracture, ruling him out of Tuesday’s friendly against Algeria.

Back in Brazil, he will be evaluated by the club’s Núcleo de Saúde e Performance. Palmeiras had Saturday off after three days of training and resume on Sunday, preparing for Grêmio at 21:30 on Thursday at Arena Crefisa Barueri.

Seven other Palmeiras players are on international duty, Flaco López and Giay with Argentina, Gómez, Ramón Sosa and Maurício with Paraguay, and Emi Martinez with Uruguay.

They will follow their national-team return logistics, and the club expects all to be back by Wednesday night.
