Palmeiras left-back Piquerez has suffered a rupture of the ligaments in his right ankle.

According to Nosso Palestra, the defender is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks. He chose surgery to speed up recovery and boost his prospects with Uruguay at the World Cup, as well as for Palmeiras.

If he returns within that window, he is set to miss Campeonato Brasileiro games against Grêmio, Bahia, Corinthians, Athletico-PR and Bragantino, Copa Libertadores meetings with Júnior Barranquilla and Sporting Cristal, and a Copa do Brasil tie with Jacuipense.

The injury is considered serious and requires surgical intervention, with the procedure due in the coming days.

By that timeline, he could miss 18 matches before recovering.
