Lazio suffered an agonizing defeat at the hands of their arch-rivals Roma, with Lorenzo Pellegrini scoring the solitary goal of Sunday’s early Serie A kickoff.
Let’s take a closer look at the performances of Maurizio Sarri’s men in our Derby della Capitale player ratings
Ivan Provedel – 5.5
The Italian goalkeeper could do little on the winner, but he also looked shaky between the sticks, and gave the ball away in dangerous areas with his short passes.
Adam Marusic – 6
A no-nonsense display from the Montenegrin who looked comfortable at the back, but didn’t offer much in the attacking phase.
Mario Gila – 6.5
The Spaniard was arguably Lazio’s best player on the pitch. Evan Ferguson and Artem Dobvyk couldn’t find a way around him.
Alessio Romagnoli – 6
The former Milan captain was solid at the back, albeit some of his challenges were late.
Nuno Tavares – 5
The Portuguese had his moments early on, but this Derby will be remembered for the blunder he committed which culminated with Lorenzo Pellegrini’s opener. He was replaced by Luca Pellegrini after the interval.
Matteo Guendouzi – 6
The Frenchman was behind some of Lazio’s best attacking plays, and he was always willing to get his hands dirty.
Nicolo Rovella – 5.5
The Italian midfielder helped Lazio control the middle of the park, but squandered a promising chance as he failed to pick up a teammate following a run to the box. He had to grit his teeth to last until half-time after being dazed by an injury.
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru – N/A
The Nigerian passed a pre-match athletic test following a challenging week, but he only lasted 10 minutes before succumbing to injury.
Pedro – 5.5
The veteran gave his all under the merciless Roman sun, but aside from a few flashes of brilliance, his impact was limited
Boulaye Dia – 5
The Senegalese striker struggled to cope with Gianluca Mancini’s physicality, and wasted a golden opportunity to equalize early in the second half.
Mattia Zaccagni – 6
The Lazio captain almost scored a sensational opener but was denied by Mile Svilar. Put Dia through on goal with a brilliant pass, but it still wasn’t his best outing.
Reda Belahyane – 4
The young Moroccan showed little restraint in his tackling, and eventually executed Lazio after earning a red card for a double kick on Manu Koné.
Danilo Cataldi – 6
The Lazio youth product almost produced an equalizer out of nothing with a stunning long-range effort, but it brushed off the post.
Luca Pellegrini – 5.5
An anonymous display from the left-back who offered little when going forward.
Taty Castellanos – 6
Added energy and determination, but couldn’t hit the target from a promising position.
Tijjani Noslin – N/A
