Chelsea reasserted their Premier League top-four credentials with a 1-0 victory over Leicester City at Stamford Bridge. A moment of brilliance from Marc Cucurella proved decisive in a contest that lacked fluidity but delivered the all-important three points for Enzo Maresca’s side.
The early exchanges saw Chelsea probing without incision. Cole Palmer had a penalty appeal dismissed, though Jadon Sancho’s claim minutes later was upheld after Victor Kristiansen caught him with a mistimed challenge. The ever-reliable Palmer stepped up, but his firm effort was expertly kept out by Mads Hermansen, underlining Leicester’s resilience.
Leicester, despite limited possession, carried a threat on the break. Tosin Adarabioyo came closest to an own goal when his misjudged header clipped the crossbar. While Chelsea controlled much of the ball, their attacking play lacked the sharpness expected at this level.
With frustration growing among the home crowd, Chelsea needed a spark. That arrived just past the hour mark when Cucurella found space on the edge of the box and arrowed a low strike into the bottom corner. The full-back’s composure turned the contest in Chelsea’s favour, easing the mounting tension at Stamford Bridge.
Leicester attempted to respond, but their offensive approach lacked a cutting edge. Jamie Vardy, once the scourge of defences, found himself isolated, while Patson Daka struggled to make an impact. Wilfred Ndidi fought admirably in midfield, yet the visitors were ultimately unable to break down Chelsea’s defensive unit.

As Chelsea settled into game management mode, Leicester saw fleeting opportunities to salvage a point. Substitute Harry Winks provided some energy in midfield, but the Foxes lacked the creativity to unlock Chelsea’s defence. Maresca’s side, meanwhile, were content to see the game out with professional efficiency, securing a win that pushes them into the Champions League places.
Leicester can take solace in their defensive organisation, yet their lack of attacking inspiration remains a concern as they strive to maintain their Premier League status.
