Inter Milan are “crazy” about Torino midfielder Samuele Ricci, and see the Italian international as an ideal heir to Hakan Calhanoglu.
This according to Italian transfer journalist Gianluigi Longari. He reports in his column for SportItalia that the Nerazzurri could make the 23-year-old a major transfer target.
Inter are thinking about the future of their squad.
For the moment, the Nerazzurri have a blend of youth and experience that they see as ideal to fight for the Serie A title and make a run in the Champions League.
But that certainly does not mean that the club are not also formulating their strategy for the future of the squad.
And one of the big questions concerns the future of the midfield.
Right now, Hakan Calhanoglu is an absolutely vital player for the Nerazzurri. The former AC Milan midfielder is the player who anchors the central trio.
Some of Inter’s struggles for midfield balance while Calhanoglu has been absent with injury in the last couple weeks have illustrated just how important the Turk is to the team.
Meanwhile, Kristjan Asllani is the main backup to Calhanoglu in the squad. He is also a player who Inter hope could eventually inherit the starting role.
The fact remains that Calhanoglu will turn 31 this season.
The former Rossoneri midfielder could well hold down his role for a few more seasons. But there is no guarantee of that.
Meanwhile, it is hardly certain that Asllani will reach the level to be a first-choice starter.
Therefore, Italian journalist Longari reports, there is one player in particular who Inter are eyeing up.
Ricci is 23 years of age. And he has become an absolutely vital player for Torino.
Ricci joined the Granata from Empoli in January of 2022. And it was in fact Asllani who replaced him in the Empoli squad, earning a move to Inter.
Ricci has been in outstanding form for Torino. He has also become a regular starter for the Italian national team.
And according to Longari, Inter have earmarked the 23-year-old as a major target for the future.
The Nerazzurri are “crazy” about Ricci, he writes.
