It’s a short trip from Munich to Augsburg, but it’s always an intense one. Saturday evening’s trip for the second game of the Bundesliga season once again confirmed that. There were goals, it was fast paced and emotions were running high. But best of all, it ended in a 3-2 win, meaning three points, a boost of confidence and momentum for the challenges ahead as Bayern got back on the coach home.
After the final whistle blew, the team went straight over to the travelling supporters, linking arms to celebrate an away win. Captain Manuel Neuer applauded the fans, coach Vincent Kompany clenched his fist, and the team sang along with the crowd at the away end. It was an image of togetherness that shows that Bayern aren’t just a unit on the pitch.
The performance wasn’t quite as blistering as the 6-0 win over RB Leipzig, but ultimately Bayern have scored nine goals across their opening two Bundesliga games to equal their best start to a season (most recently in 2020/21). The men from Munich are also still unbeaten away from home in the league in 2025. It’s the team’s best run since 2019/20, while it’s the fourth season in a row they’ve kicked off with back-to-back wins in the Bundesliga. They’re all stats and numbers that show continuity and stability.
Kompany also appeared satisfied after the final whistle, without glossing over the areas that still need work. “We scored lots of goals, had chances. It’s not perfect – I know that – but I’m of the opinion that we’ll sort it out. We did the right thing for long periods, otherwise we wouldn’t have created so many chances,” the coach said. Bayern had seven big chances to Augsburg’s zero, while the shot count (20-10) and shots on target (10-3) underline the team’s overall dominance.

The win was overshadowed by one moment late on, though, when Augsburg’s Robin Fellhauer had to be stretchered off the pitch following a collision with Sacha Boey.
FC Bayern wishes him a speedy recovery!
Yes, the fact that goals from Kristijan Jakic and Mert Kömür made things tight again after Serge Gnabry, Luis Diaz and Michael Olise had opened up a big lead did frustrate Neuer – and most certainly every Bayern fan – but the captain was quick to look ahead. “The goals we conceded obviously annoy us. But on the other hand, we failed to take a lot of chances. A team first needs to create that many chances, which we did. We’ll get those things right over time,” the goalkeeper explained.
One player who is crucial in that regard is, of course, Harry Kane. But even when he doesn't score himself, as was the case against Augsburg, he still shone in his 100th competitive match in a Bayern shirt with two assists.
“Everyone did their bit. We’re there for each other. Our patterns of play are right and the desire is there,” said Josip Stanisic, before adding, “How much Harry works back for us – regardless of his incredible goals and assists numbers – he’s a role model for us all.” Jonathan Tah echoed those sentiments: “He’s so important for the team, especially with the way he leads from the front. He’s a leader on and off the pitch. I’m really happy to get to play with someone like him.”
Saturday evening in Augsburg was about more than a win. It was another statement. Bayern aren’t just picking up wins in the early stage of the season but are enjoying themselves out on the pitch. “The team has really great character,” board member for sport Max Eberl emphasised.
And anyone who saw the scenes of celebration with the fans will know that this team is ready to give much, much more.
