Atletico Madrid have the chance to make history this Wednesday night as they host Real Madrid at the Metropolitano in the second leg of their Champions League derby. They could for the first time knock their city rivals out of European competition in the Round of 16, but in order to do so, must overturn a 2-1 deficit from the first leg.
Neither manager is expected to make wholesale changes from the first leg, where the headline news is the return of Jude Bellingham from suspension. According to Diario AS, Diego Simeone is still erring between whether to continue with Clement Lenglet at the back and Samuel Lino on the left of midfield, or whether to replace them with Robin Le Normand and Conor Gallagher respectively.
Lenglet missed Atletico’s 2-1 defeat to Getafe this weekend with discomfort, but is expected to be fit in time, as is Rodrigo de Paul in midfield. He came off at half-time in that game, but is expected to start. More positive news for Simeone is that captain Koke Resurreccion will be fit enough to make the bench, allowing him a more natural alternative to Pablo Barrios and de Paul.

Marca believe that Simeone will be unchanged from the first leg, and both Madrid-based papers agree that the Bellingham will return in place of Brahim Diaz, despite his man of the match performance at the Santiago Bernabeu. Despite Carlo Ancelotti’s protests that Luka Modric can start two games in four days, Eduardo Camavinga is set to start alongside Aurelien Tchouameni in midfield again.
He is one of five Real Madrid players at risk of missing the first leg of the quarter-finals through suspension if he is booked, alongside Modric, Tchouameni, Endrick Felipe and Antonio Rudiger. For Atletico, Jose Maria Gimenez and Angel Correa are required to watch their step.
