Leo Messi is pushing for his compatriot Lautaro Martinez to win the Ballon d’Or, but the Inter striker is expected to finish in the top five, with Vini Jr. winning the award for the first time.

Sky Sport Italia (via FCInter1908) predicts Inter striker Lautaro Martinez will finish in the top 5 of the 2024 Ballon d’Or ranking.

Journalist Matteo Barzaghi made the announcement outside Inter’s training centre on Thursday afternoon.

The Argentinean star is among the 30 finalists alongside his teammate Hakan Calhanoglu and Atalanta ace Ademola Lookman.

According to Sky, Lautaro will finish in the top 5, while Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior is the most likely winner.

Lautaro won the Serie A title with Inter and the Copa America with Argentina last season, becoming the top scorer in both tournaments.

Leo Messi said earlier this week that Lautaro deserves to win the Ballon d’Or more than any other player.

The Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place in Paris on October 28.
