Premier League Awards: Liverpool crisis, Kluivert’s cracker

Our Premier League Weekly Awards honour the best – and worst – of the weekend action, featuring Estevao Willian, Erling Haaland and Justin Kluivert.

Moment of the Week

Estevao Willian has arrived at Chelsea. The talented teenager has caught the eye since his summer switch from Palmeiras, but delivered his best moment yet with a first Chelsea goal.

Estevao arrived at the back post to turn in a 95th-minute winner against Liverpool, condemning the champions to a third straight defeat in all competitions and ensuring an explosion of noise at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea had failed to win in three league games heading into this contest, but the mood in West London is different now. A star in the making has reignited their Premier League campaign.

Player of the Week

Bournemouth lost some big names in the summer but keeping hold of Antoine Semenyo was a masterstroke. The winger has been unstoppable in the opening weeks of the campaign and tore apart Fulham on Friday night to maintain his super start.

Semenyo struck twice to make it six goals in seven games this season, netting a sublime solo effort, before showing incredible desire to charge the length of the pitch and score a late second.

His mix of pace, power and improved end product has helped carry Bournemouth into the Champions League places. The Cherries are daring to dream.

Goal of the Week

A special strike from Justin Kluivert earns our Goal of the Week honour, with the Dutchman delighting The Vitality Stadium with a rocket against Fulham.

Having been oddly out of favour lately despite last season’s exploits, this was a reminder to Andoni Iraola what he’s capable of.

Save of the Week

Miss of the Week

Crystal Palace were left kicking themselves as the club’s 19-game unbeaten run came to an end at Everton. Palace led at The Hill Dickinson Stadium and passed up several opportunities to extend their advantage.

The worst of the lot was by Jean-Phillipe Mateta, with the usually reliable Frenchman wasteful when presented with a gaping goal.

Stat of the Week

Only Anfield remains on Erling Haaland’s away day bucket list.

An absurd record from a, frankly, absurd goalscorer.

A week to forget for…

Arne Slot. Three defeats in a week has placed the champions in a mini-crisis, with the international break perhaps well timed for the Liverpool manager to gather his thoughts. Successive defeats in the Premier League have come as a result of stoppage-time goals, a contrast to their own late shows earlier in the campaign.

Problems persist in the club’s build-up and their marquee additions are yet to settle at Anfield. Perhaps more concerningly, big players from last season are struggling to replicate the same levels. With a very tricky run approaching, Liverpool need to rediscover their form.
