Premier League clubs have unanimously voted to keep the £30 cap on away tickets for the next two seasons, benefiting travelling supporters across the division, including Sunderland fans.

Introduced in 2016, the cap limits the price paid by away fans. Thursday’s vote means it will run until summer 2028, making 12 seasons in total. The Premier League said the measure recognises away fans’ contribution and travel costs, and that average away attendances have risen from 82 per cent to 91 per cent since 2016.

Earlier this week, tickets for Sunday’s Tyne-Wear derby at Newcastle United were returned to sale after a large-scale breach of ticketing rules.

On Tuesday, a limited number were re-released following action against a supporter who had misused their allocation, with 65 seats put back on the market for St James’ Park.

The tickets went back on sale at 12pm on Tuesday after a review cancelled purchases found to breach the club’s away-ticket policies. They have since been resold.
