The penultimate round of Premier League fixtures gave us plenty of talking points and a few emotional goodbyes.

And so with that in mind, here is our Premier League Player of the Week ...

Jamie Vardy (Leicester)

In a weekend where farewells and footballing folklore intertwined, Jamie Vardy delivered a performance that not only etched his name deeper into Leicester's history but also underscored why he is one of the Premier League's greatest ever strikers.

In his final home game for the Foxes, Vardy scored his 200th goal for the club on what was also his 500th appearance, leading Leicester to a 2–0 victory over Ipswich at the King Power Stadium.

It's difficult to overstate just how big a milestone this is for the 38-year-old. Vardy's journey from non-league football with Fleetwood to Premier League champion is the stuff of legend and in almost too-perfect symmetry, his double century came 13 years to the day after he signed for the east Midlands outfit.

The goal itself was also quintessential Vardy: a burst of pace into the area, a look up to see where the goalkeeper was placed and a crafty finish into the far. If the goal was Vardy incarnate, so too was the celebration. The former England international wheeled away towards the away fans all whilst shouting "F**k off".

Of course it hasn't been the ideal send-off season for Vardy with Leicester having already been relegated at the start of the month, winning just five games up to Sunday's clash.

But the negativity surrounding the campaign dissipated at once as Vardy's number was raised in the second half to a rapturous ovation from home and away fans alike.

As he left the pitch, Vardy was honoured with a guard of honour from teammates and a golden fox statue, symbolising his stature as the greatest to ever pull on a Leicester shirt.

"I missed a couple before that but once JJ [James Justin] put me through there I was never going to miss it," Vardy told the BBC afterwards.

"Obviously getting the dogs' abuse from the away fans up there, there was only one place I was going."

In 13 years Vardy has claimed a Premier League title, an FA Cup triumph, a Champions League quarter-final, a Europa Conference League semi-final and two Championship titles.

"It's been amazing, it's been a rollercoaster, it really has.

"But the good thing is there's been way, way, way more highs [than lows] and I thank everyone. I never thought we'd be in the Champions League, we'd win the league, and we've all been there for a reason."

A perfect way to say goodbye for Leicester's perfect centre-forward.
