What lessons need to be learned from last season?

Last season was such a rollercoaster, and main issue was weak mentality and leadership (owed to a young squad and the youngest manager in Premier League history).

Two big losses vs major rivals Crystal Palace and a 7-0 thrashing from Forest – yet we finished on 61 points and only five points from Champions League. Have to close that gap this season.

What’s your view on the manager?

I quite vocally haven’t always been Fabian Hurzeler’s biggest fan. I thought it was a huge gamble at the time and I think it’s naive to say he wasn’t out of his depth at times in his first Premier League season.

But 61 points speaks for itself (Roberto De Zerbi’s best finish was 62 points). He’s had a year to learn, he’s got my full backing for this season!

What’s your verdict on your summer transfer window so far?

Very classic Brighton stuff this window. Sadly lost Joao Pedro and Pervis Estupinan but have brought in some quality with Olivier Boscagli and Maxim De Cuyper, whilst also mixing in some new talent like Kostoulas, Tzimas, and Watson.

We’ve solved our glaring squad issues, and are building for the future at the same time – it’s the Brighton way.

One player to watch from your club this season

The Brighton player to watch will be Georginio Rutter. A very solid 12 goals and assists from the No.10 position in his first season for Brighton, but now the club will be hoping for even more after the departure of Joao Pedro.

Georgi signed for a club record £40m fee last summer, and now we need him to step up. He has to be the main man this year…

The most underrated player at your club is…

Jack Hinshelwood, just turned 20 and feel like he’s doesn’t get any praise outside of Sussex. Should be spoken about in the same sentences as Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton.

The game you’re most looking forward to this season is…

I’m always looking forward to the Palace games. They did the double on us last season and obviously killed us by winning the FA Cup too – definitely need to plot some revenge…

What opposition player do you secretly admire

I’ve said before, I kind of hate how likeable the current Palace squad is. Glasner is a top coach, and men like Eze, Lacroix, Guehi are proper players and good people too. Forcing myself to hate them at times.

This season your team will finish…

Hurzeler said the aim was Top 5, my expectation is to improve on last season. So it has to be Top 7 – needs to be a massive shift but I think we can get 6th.
