Premier League rivals “considering approaches” for €53m pair who Chelsea will let leave

Chelsea’s January has been full of rumour and little action so far. We really hope that this final week sees everything fall into place.

Poor Carney Chukwuemeka has been linked with moves away from the club for a long time now. But so far, nothing has come to pass. Still, the rumours tick on regardless, and Ben Jacobs’ latest Tweet on the matter brings some valuable insight to events.

He says that West Ham are “considering” an approach both for the midfielder and his teammate Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall as they look to find their feet under the newly appointed Graham Potter. The pair cost Chelsea around €53m in total.

Chelsea would let either player go at the right price if you believe what most of these rumours are saying. And the Hammer’s fear of relegation might make them the perfect candidate to give us the offers we want for them.

Chelsea leaving loans until last as they seek permanent exits for squad players

But West Ham isn’t the only potential move mentioned by Jacobs. He also notes that a loan to Strasbourg could be a potential exit should no permanent offers materialise.

That also explains the lack of activity so far as we head into the final week of the month. They are exploring non-loan options for a lot of these players knowing that in the last 48 hours they can pull the emergency cord and loan them out if need be. As Strasbourg share our owners, a deal should be able to be concluded very rapidly.

It would mean recalling Caleb Wiley and finding him a new loan destination, but given he’s not played much that’s not a massive opportunity cost.

Let’s just hope that whatever happens, poor Carney doesn’t spend the second half of this season like he’s spent the first.
