Our Premier League Team of the Week after a monumental weekend of action at both ends of the table, featuring names from Leeds, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Goalkeeper: Bernd Leno – Fulham

Came up trumps late on for Fulham with a sensational stop in the 90th minute. Leno’s big hand to deny Dango Ouattara might be the difference between European football or not.

Right-back: Curtis Jones – Liverpool

One of his best games of the campaign in a role that is not his favourite. The Scouser stood in at right-back for Liverpool and was the Reds’ best performer at Everton. He inverted infield nicely to create overloads and linked well with those ahead of him, while keeping tabs on the threat of Iliman Ndiaye.

Centre-back: James Justin – Leeds

A brilliant bicycle kick from Justin helped Leeds to a massive three points against Wolves. The defender’s acrobatics were the highlight of a performance which saw Justin make a whopping seven tackles and win nine defensive duels.

Centre-back: Ayden Heaven – Manchester United

An incredibly accomplished performance from the teenager who stood up in the absence of experienced teammates.

Heaven made four clearances and blocked four shots, while timing several sliding tackles to perfection. A reminder that the 19-year-old cost Manchester United just £1m.

Left-back: Nico O’Reilly – Manchester City

Excellent again, O’Reilly loves playing against Arsenal. The left-back’s forays forward were a threat all game, and he was rewarded with the assist for Erling Haaland’s winner. Has such technical feet for a big man.

Midfield: Kobbie Mainoo – Manchester United

Michael Carrick gushed that Kobbie Mainoo’s performance at Chelsea was the midfielder’s ‘best’ under his management.

A doubt ahead of the clash, Mainoo was instead central to a vital win. A performance which rubbished the suggestion that he can be found out defensively, with several vital interceptions and barely a misplaced pass.

Midfield: Morgan Gibbs-White – Nottingham Forest

A captain’s performance, just when Forest needed one. A home clash with Burnley will have been targeted for maximum points in the club’s survival battle, but the Clarets led at half-time.

Up stepped Gibbs-White to score the first hat-trick of his career and make it six goals in six games. A purple patch perfectly timed.

Midfield: Bernardo Silva – Manchester City

Pep Guardiola has said it makes him feel ’emotional’ thinking about Bernardo Silva’s summer exit and it’s easy to see why. The Manchester City captain is a remarkable footballer, and a master of many trades.

He was outstanding against Arsenal, with an all-action performance that even included last-ditch tackles and headed clearances when the pressure was on.

Right-wing: Rayan Cherki – Manchester City

Sublime individual goal was Rayan Cherki at his best. The Frenchman is the slickest of operators and a privilege to watch. That’s double figures for goals and assists now, in what has been a wonderful debut season. A title success would be the cherry to top it.

Left-wing: Noah Okafor – Leeds United

Leeds’ hero against Manchester United picked up where he left off. Okafor started the win over Wolves brilliantly, who couldn’t deal with him. A goal and assist continued his rich vein of form.

Forward: Ollie Watkins – Aston Villa

His confidence is back. After scoring his 100th Aston Villa goal on Thursday night, Watkins picked up where he left off.

An early opener set the tone for an impressive afternoon, before he headed a second before half-time. Watkins set up Morgan Rogers for the third, with this performance a message to Thomas Tuchel after his snub in March.
