There is something slightly controversial about this season’s batch, however, with just the one game taking place on Boxing Day this year.

That has caused a stir in the football world, but with Christmas Day itself falling on a Thursday, the decision has been made to play the festive fixtures like a normal weekend.

The Premier League has announced that it will be Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United that play at home on December 26, when they host Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

After that, on Saturday, December 27, is when the majority of the top-flight sides play, with Nottingham Forest vs Manchester City the lunchtime offering as turkey sandwiches are made.

It then leaves Arsenal and Liverpool as 3pm kick-offs on the Saturday, with the Gunners hosting Brighton and Hove Albion, and the champions taking on Wolves.

Brentford welcome Bournemouth to the Gtech Community Stadium, Burnley travel to Everton, and West Ham and Fulham face off in the other 3pm clashes.

Chelsea round off December 27 with the tea-time game against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.

On the Sunday, Sunderland take on Leeds United, before Tottenham traverse the Thames to take on Crystal Palace in the 4.30pm kick-off.

Moving towards the New Year’s games, they will be treated like a normal midweek bout of matches.

There are four 7.30pm kick-offs on December 30, with two more at 8.15pm as the festive fun continues.

Of those 7.30pm starts, Chelsea hosting Bournemouth is the highlight, while West Ham take on Brighton.

Later in the evening, Man Utd are back in action against Wolves, and Arsenal welcome Aston Villa to north London.

Moving into January, there are four games to open the new year.

Crystal Palace and Fulham meet in a London derby, while Liverpool take on Leeds in two unusual 5.30pm kick-offs, before Tottenham travel to Brentford and Man City make the trip to Wearside to play Sunderland.

The final weekend of the festive period is rounded off by Arsenal heading to Dorset to take on Bournemouth in the pick of the three games on Saturday, January 3, with there being six games on offer the next day.

There are four 3pm kick-offs, but they will all be shown on Sky Sports as the blackout does not apply to Sundays.

Man Utd open the day with a trip to fierce rivals Leeds at lunchtime, before Brentford travel to Everton, Liverpool are at Fulham, Palace make the trip to Newcastle, and Spurs host Sunderland.

A mouth-watering clash between Man City and Chelsea goes down at 5.30pm.

There is one final round of midweek clashes starting on January 6 with West Ham and Nottingham Forest, before the main bulk of games on Wednesday, January 7.

There are five 7.30pm kick-offs and a further two 8.15pm starts, with Tottenham at Bournemouth, Brentford taking on Sunderland, Palace facing Villa, Brighton travelling to Man City and Everton hosting Wolves. Chelsea’s west London derby at Fulham is the pick of those fixtures.

Newcastle play Leeds, while Man Utd take on Burnley at Turf Moor in the later games.

Arsenal play Liverpool to finish off a mammoth Christmas period on Thursday, January 8.
