Aston Villa host Newcastle United in an all-Premier League clash at Villa Park in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
The Villans continue to enjoy an impressive league campaign and currently sit third in the Premier League table, firmly in contention for Champions League qualification next season.
Unai Emery’s side returned to winning ways last time out with a victory over Brighton, secured via a Jack Hinshelwood own goal. Sitting five points clear of fourth place, Villa come into the tie in strong spirits.
Newcastle, by contrast, have endured a more inconsistent campaign but also arrives on the back of a morale-boosting result. Eddie Howe’s side claimed a crucial 2–1 away win over relegation-threatened Tottenham, marking just their second victory in seven matches.
That result followed a heavy defeat to title-challenging Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-final, ending Newcastle’s hopes of reaching the final for a second consecutive season. However, the FA Cup now presents an opportunity to build momentum, and a win at a venue as formidable as Villa Park this season would be a significant statement.
Newcastle have lifted the FA Cup six times in their history, but have only reached the quarter-finals twice since the 2010/11 season. They exited the competition in the fifth round last year, losing at home to Brighton.
Villa, meanwhile, have won the trophy on seven occasions but have struggled to make deep runs in recent years. Last season, they reached the semi-final, though they were comfortably beaten by eventual winners Crystal Palace.
Both sides are dealing with key injury concerns. Villa remain without midfield trio Boubacar Kamara, Youri Tielemans and John McGinn, while Matty Cash is also expected to miss out after being absent against Brighton.
Newcastle face similar issues in midfield, with Joelinton and Lewis Miley unavailable. Bruno Guimarães is also a doubt after being substituted late on against Tottenham with a hamstring problem.
Kick-off is scheduled for 17:45, with live coverage on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and TNT Sports.
