QPR host Ipswich Town at Loftus Road this Saturday in the Championship, with both sides looking to build momentum in the mid-table battle.
QPR are ninth with 18 points but slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Derby County last time out. Julien Stéphan’s team will be aiming to bounce back on home turf and push closer to the play-off places.
Ipswich arrive in confident mood after a 1-0 win over West Bromwich, sitting 12th with 16 points. Kieran McKenna’s side will hope to extend their run and climb further up the table with another strong away performance.
Ben Platt (W12 Podcast): The Rs head into the clash under Julien Stéphan, who’s been looking to steady the ship following a couple of defeats that interrupted a promising unbeaten run. After a good away win at Swansea mid-week, QPR followed that up with a disappointing performance at Derby - which they lost 1-0 and never really threatened to do anything all game.
On the injury and selection front, no dramatic updates have been widely flagged, though Stéphan may well shuffle his side to inject freshness and composure with pretty much a full squad to pick from. Expect Ilias Chair to be involved more this weekend as he returns from injury.
Statistically, this promises to be a tight affair. Historically, QPR hold a slight upper hand: in 26 clashes since 2004, the Rs have edged more wins than Ipswich (11 vs 10) with 5 draws, and at Loftus Road especially they’ve been more dominant (7 wins, 5 draws, 1 loss)
Prediction: 1-2
Adam Wilkin (Blue Monday): Town sit 23rd in the Away form table albeit having only registered four games. The 1-0 victory against West Brom brought more stability at the cost of bluntening the attack but it remains to be seen whether Town were good or West Brom were just poor.
There's also selection issues with Sammie Szmodics needing an operation and Chuba Akpom suffering a contact injury leaving a gap in the '10' position. This will likely leave Marcelino Nunez to start further forward.
It took a poachers effort from Conor Chaplin to settle the game the last time these sides met at Loftus Road and I think it could take something similar here. It would be lovely if it could be one of Sindre Walle Egeli or Ivan Azon to get their first goals of the season too.
Prediction: 0-1
