Josko Gvardiol has been one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe for years. FC Bayern have also been repeatedly linked with the Croatian international. Now there is new information about his future – and above all about a possible transfer fee
The name Josko Gvardiol regularly appears on the wish lists of top European clubs. Despite his young age, the Manchester City central defender has long been one of the international elite in his position and has also been linked with FC Bayern for some time
According to recent reports, a new situation could indeed arise in the summer, with the Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti reporting that Gvardiol is open to a move to a new club after the World Cup
Pep Guardiola’s departure is cited as a key reason for this, with the former City coach said to have been the decisive factor in convincing the Croatian to move to Manchester in 2023
With the end of the Guardiola era, Gvardiol is now seriously considering his future for the first time
Despite the alleged thoughts of a move, Manchester City do not want to let the defender go without a fight. According to Sportske Novosti, the club are planning to make the 24-year-old a new and financially significantly improved contract offer
The Croatian international’s current contract runs until 2028, but City are clearly keen to make a statement early on and tie their defender to the club for the long term
Should Gvardiol nevertheless decide to leave, the English club already have a clear idea of a possible transfer fee
According to the report, Manchester City will demand no less than the amount the club itself once paid to RB Leipzig, which is said to be around 90 million euros
A sum that would automatically make Gvardiol one of the most expensive defenders in soccer history

FC Bayern are apparently one of the clubs keeping a close eye on developments, with the Munich club being named as one of the most concrete interested parties alongside Real Madrid
Particularly interesting: According to the report, Gvardiol could in principle imagine a move to both the Whites and the German record champions
Nevertheless, a transfer to Säbener Straße seems rather unlikely at present. Munich have set other priorities this summer and are already working intensively on several personnel matters
In particular, the signings of Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown are currently the focus of planning, with both transfers at an advanced stage
Together, the two desired players would cost FC Bayern just under 100 million euros and thus take up a considerable part of the available transfer budget
In addition, the central defense is not currently considered the most urgent construction site in the squad. Although there could still be personnel changes in the summer, an investment in the order of 90 million euros currently seems difficult to imagine
Nevertheless, the name Gvardiol is likely to continue to be closely monitored in Munich. Should the situation at Manchester City change or the financial framework conditions develop anew, the Croatian could remain an issue for FC Bayern in the future. At present, however, there is much to suggest that Munich will initially focus their resources on other transfer targets.
