Borussia Dortmund face Eintracht Frankfurt at Deutsche Bank Park on Friday evening, with Niko Kovač’s side coming into the Matchday 16 fixture as Bayern Munich’s closest challengers.
The big talking point coming into this fixture is whether or not Gregor Kobel will play. The Swiss custodian left Dortmund’s training camp early due to illness, with Kovač confirming in Thursday’s press conference that the 28-year-old, who has played every minute in the Bundesliga this season, is suffering from a cold, and back problems.
“We will do everything we can to ensure that he can play the full 90 minutes in goal. If that is not the case, we have enough quality to replace Gregor adequately,” said Kovač.
Should Kobel not feature, Alexander Meyer will step up to take his place.
Defensively, Waldemar Anton returns after missing BVB’s last two Bundesliga games, but Aarón Anselmino, who trained individually, has not yet rejoined the team.
Jobe Bellingham is also serving the final game of his suspension.
Seventeen-year-old Mussa Kaba, who was a member of the training camp in Spain, will also be a part of Dortmund’s matchday squad for their Bundesliga clash against Frankfurt.
