Paris Saint-Germain have made contact with the representatives of Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté (25) with the view to a summer move, according to Sacha Tavolieri.
ESPN reported PSG’s interest in the France international over the weekend with the reigning Ligue 1 champions looking to recruit a centre-back in the summer, anticipating the potential departure of captain Marquinhos, the subject of interest from Saudi Arabia.
Tavolieri understands that contact has now been made with Konaté’s representatives in order to advance a deal ahead of the summer transfer window. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is at the heart of the attempts to bring the Liverpool defender to the Parc des Princes, with the player in question keen on a return to his hometown, as per Tavolieri.
“To hear big clubs like that are showing interest in me is very flattering! Now I’m focussing on this season, giving it my all and I’ll let my agents take care of the rest,” Konaté told Téléfoot on Sunday.
However, the Belgian journalist understands that two key stakeholders – Luis Enrique and Luís Campos – are less keen on the move. Konaté is “not a priority” for the duo.
Meanwhile, sources contacted by Get French Football News have also denied interest in the former RB Leipzig defender with those sources describing the PSG links as “completely unfounded”. The reports come amid talks between the player and Liverpool over a contract extension. His current deal expires at the end of next season.
