As reported by Sky Sports, Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Luís Campos features on Arsenal’s shortlist to replace the outgoing Edu.
Edu’s announcement that he would be leaving his role as sporting director at Arsenal came as a shock. For the past month, the Premier League side have been creating a shortlist of potential replacements. As per Gianluca Di Marzio, AS Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro features on this list.
However, a new name has now emerged – Campos. The Portuguese sporting director has overseen a change of strategy at PSG, who have moved away from the “bling-bling” era, instead focusing on blooding in academy products and targeting young, high-potential players when dipping into the market.
Under Campos’ stewardship, the likes of Joao Neves, Désiré Doué, Goncalo Ramos, and Bradley Barcola have all arrived at the Parc des Princes; they are symbols of a new project and a divergence from the previous strategy.
Campos’ future with Les Parisiens is, however, uncertain. His contract runs until the end of the season, and whilst there are discussions over a renewal, there is no guarantee that they will reach a positive conclusion. As per L’Équipe, Campos himself has certain terms that the Ligue 1 club may have to agree to, for example, bringing in some people close to him, notably in the communication department. The Portuguese sporting director must also make a decision himself and “some personal problems” may play a part in his decision to extend, or not, in the French capital.
