Best goal of the year is set to be decided
The Puskas Award is back for another year to celebrate the best goals scored in 2025.
The prize will be awarded tonight - Tuesday, December 16, 2025 - at the FIFA Best Awards in Doha, Qatar.
Also tonight, the men’s and women’s individual, goalkeeper, and coach awards will be handed out, with stars alike in contention.
The Puskas Award is unlike any other, however, heralding a piece of genius to hit the back of the net.
Arsenal’s Declan Rice is among the contenders for his rocket of a free-kick - his second of the game - against Real Madrid in the Champions League, while Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal is also on the shortlist after his sublime cut-in and curl into the corner against Espanyol.
Last year, Chelsea’s Alejandro Garnacho took home the prize for his overhead kick for Manchester United against Everton at Goodison Park.
There is also a women’s prize - the Marta Award - and Arsenal’s Mariona Caldentey is shortlisted for that with her long-range strike against Lyon.
Brentford’s Ashley Cheatley’s bicycle kick against Ascot United also makes it.
