Queens Park Rangers have undergone a turbulent season thus far under former Rennes and Strasbourg manager Julien Stephan, with many not knowing their verdict on the boss just yet, as Football League World's QPR fan pundit recalls a player once unreasonably disliked amongst the fanbase.

QPR's 7-1 defeat to Coventry City early on in the campaign has somewhat blighted their season, as although the R's sit in arm's length of the play-off places, many R's fans have yet to decide what to make of this group of players and manager.

Following their demolition at Coventry, QPR underwent a six-game unbeaten run, including four wins, but they then followed that promising form with just one win in six.

Stephan has been the one under fire for the side's lacklustre displays, but he has also been on the receiving end of the credit when it was due during their unbeaten run.

Fears from the R's fanbase over another potentially wasted season are rife, with the promotion picture as open as it has been in a long while. Many fans will be frustrated that they aren't capitalising on the opportunity.

With players and manager under scrutiny, Football League World's QPR fan pundit has recalled one player who was disliked amongst the fanbase with little reasoning.

Football League World's QPR fan pundit, Louis Moir, has shared their opinion on the one player who used to play for the club whom they think the majority of the club's fanbase don't like.

Louis said: "I'd say one name that I've seen, probably more so, since he left the club, but a lot of fans say he was overrated, they didn't really rate him that highly, and I just have the complete opposite opinion of that, and I think that player is Massimo Luongo.

"Yes, he was with us at a time when, as a club, we weren't doing much. We were struggling overall, really, and we weren't really achieving anything, and it probably wasn't hard to stand out.

"I think he did get player of the year one year, and he was good to watch. I really enjoyed him in centre-midfield. I thought he was a top player, and he really had a lot to his game going forward and defensively as well.

"I think for the fans who say he was overrated, I don't know, I can't see it. I just don't agree with that whatsoever.

"You look at when he left us, he went obviously, well, Ipswich signed him, now at Millwall, and, still playing at a high level, really.

"[He has been] essentially, at clubs that are trying to achieve things, and that was, like, quite a few years ago, we had him as well.

"I think he has just matured into quite a consistent player at this level as well, and, you know, he wouldn't have played for Ipswich as much or been at a club like that.

"He got promoted to the Premier League, and then a club like Millwall, who are on the up, signed him as well.

"So yeah, I just think he was probably, if anything, underrated, and, you know, I was a big fan of his, and I really liked him.

"As I say, he was my sort of type of midfielder, someone who I like in the middle of the park who can do a lot, and I think he sort of always gave his all as well.

"Ability-wise, he was, I thought he was a top player, and was probably one of the few signings at the time that actually worked out and was probably signed for fairly cheap, and overall, did well at the club.

"I really liked him, so I can't understand how many fans think he was overrated."

Massimo Luongo would become a key player for Ipswich Town in the Championship and Premier League after leaving QPR

Luongo spent four seasons at QPR between 2015 and 2019, making 152 appearances in all competitions, scoring 10 and assisting 16 from midfield in that period, before joining Sheffield Wednesday.

The Aussie spent three seasons as a rotation option in South Yorkshire before joining Middlesbrough in September 2022, but failed to make an appearance, and would leave The Riverside after just half a season, subsequently joining Ipswich Town in League One.

Luongo helped the Tractor Boys earn promotion from the third tier in 2023, before becoming a regular in the Championship the following campaign, making 43 second-tier appearances as Ipswich were promoted again.

Although he found his game time in the top flight to be limited, Luongo proved to everyone, especially his critics at QPR, what exactly he was capable of.

Now with Millwall, the Aussie made nine appearances with the Lions before a knee injury ruled him out for the remainder of the season.
