QPR and Norwich City are expected to fight it out for the same transfer target at Man United this summer...

Queens Park Rangers will soon turn their attentions towards the summer transfer window, with Manchester United one of a number of Premier League clubs they can look to for young talents.

Mathematically speaking, QPR can still make the play-offs. They cannot be relegated but, in reality, they will be a Championship side next season. It will be their 12th season in a row of second tier football, which is why they will be desperate for a strong summer window.

Fringe players from the elite English clubs can often be signed on loan or permanently with sell-on clauses. That is a market they will look totake advantage of, even with some of QPR's best players being so young.

Only eight clubs have outscored QPR, with seven of the top eight and Sheffield United the only teams with more goals. They evidently require more quality in their defensive unit, with an emphasis on bolstering that area particularly important this summer.

QPR join Norwich City in Harry Amass transfer race for 2026/27

Harry Amass is a 19-year-old left-back or left-sided wing-back from London, having started out in Watford's academy. He joined Man United back in March 2023 and has impressed for the English giants in various cameos and appearances since.

Last summer, Amass joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan and stood out as one of the division's best young defenders. The Owls have been bottom of the league all season but Amass impressed enough to earn a recall and a loan to Norwich City.

In January, Amass joined Championship rivals Norwich City on loan until the end of the season. He made his debut against Coventry City two days later, coming off the bench in a 2-1 win. However, he was struck down with a huge slice of misfortune.

After that game, manager Philippe Clement revealed Amass faced a lengthy lay-off after picking up an injury in training. It has ruled him out ever since and stalled his rapid development. It could see him face another loan to the second tier this summer instead.

West London Sport report that QPR have interest in retaining Rhys Norrington-Davies after a season-long loan from Sheffield United, but that a deal with the Blades does not look particularly straightforward given his contract still runs for another year, and that there are other alternatives.

Other left-backs have been identified as potential signings, with Boy Kemper from NAC Breda one individual they're keeping tabs on, but it is said that Amass is currently QPR’s top target.

However, Norwich City are also expected to try to land him in the summer window again from Old Trafford, even despite his abrupt, likely season-ending injury.

Man United need Harry Amass to play regularly to reach his potential

In reality, Amass has a ceiling that comfortably has him becoming a Premier League regular and, in time, an England international. He has all the tools in his skill-set to make it. However, for a player who has only just turned 19, his physical profile is particularly striking.

He already possesses the strength, power, frame, and athleticism to compete in senior football. That is often the biggest barrier for young full-backs breaking through into senior football. His rise has been remarkable, given the conditions he joined Sheffield Wednesday in.

Technically, he looks incredibly assured, but it’s that physical readiness combined with composure in deeper areas that sets him apart from most players his age. Despite an injury blow this season, the next step is simple: regular minutes.

If he gains consistent senior exposure again next season, his development curve should accelerate quickly again. That’s when his true potential could begin to materialise. He would be an excellent deal for both QPR or Norwich again in 2026/27.
