Manchester United goalkeeper Radek Vitek has spoken out on the disappointment of the team’s 1-0 friendly loss to Rosenborg but highlighted how proud he is that so many young players were entrusted to play.

The Czech keeper enjoyed a successful loan spell last season at Accrington Stanley and carried on that form on Monday evening.

In truth, United’s young squad could have lost by a lot more if it weren’t for Vitek’s heroics in goal.

He was the only player from United’s side to play all 90 minutes and made an astonishing seven saves in the match.

Therefore, conceding with basically the last kick of the game was harsh on the 20 year old, who thoroughly deserved a clean sheet, even if the team did not overall.

Speaking to the official club website the Czech under 20 international echoed the manager’s dissatisfaction with the performance and result.

“We are disappointed as I feel like we should always aim for a win, the manager said we don’t play friendlies as it is in our DNA. We should demand more.”

“We are building up now as it is only our first week of pre-season, so we are still waiting for some more boys [to arrive back] from their internationals. But as I said, in the end, all that matters is winning.”

Despite the negativity of the team’s overall performance, Vitek was happy that he was just one of so many young players given the chance to make a mark in the opening pre-season game in Trondheim, Norway.

“It is really good that the young lads are getting the opportunity as when you step on the field you have to show yourself.”

The giant keeper also commented on his happiness to play in front of so many passionate United fans in the Scandinavian country.

“It is a big opportunity in front of a lot of people that are watching you. You have to demand the best from yourself. It is an amazing feeling as the fans have been amazing. Lots of them at our hotel, even in the stadium the crowd was amazing: a full stadium of Red shirts.”

Vitek will hope that his standout performance will allow him further minutes on this pre-season tour as the team gears up to face Glasgow Rangers in Edinburgh on Saturday.

It has been previously reported that there is much loan interest in the goalkeeper for this summer and with performances like this, that market will only continue to expand.
