Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a massive boost with Radu Dragusin nearing full fitness.
The club confirmed that the 23-year-old centre-back has taken a major step forward in his recovery after featuring for Tottenham in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Leyton Orient earlier today.
Dragusin got his first taste of action since suffering a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury earlier this year and lasted 45 minutes on the pitch.
Having returned to full training in recent weeks, Dragusin’s comeback has been handled carefully by Tottenham’s medical staff.
After spending months on the sidelines, the Romanian international is now edging closer to full fitness, with the club keen to avoid any setbacks as he rebuilds his match sharpness.
Dragusin has taken part in Tottenham’s first team training over the past couple of weeks. However, the club’s relentless fixture schedule has made it difficult for him to slot back into sessions.
Manager Thomas Frank has had to balance recovery days and tactical preparations with Tottenham playing a match every three days, so finding a spot for Dragusin to fit in has been difficult.
However, the friendly fixture was a valuable opportunity for the defender to regain rhythm and confidence in a competitive setting.
During the upcoming international break, Dragusin is expected to join Romania’s squad for a brief training stint.
He isn’t expected to feature in their two World Cup qualifiers, but the short spell will allow him to continue his recovery in a familiar environment and ease back into full-speed football.
Both Tottenham and the Romanian national team believe it’s a smart move that will help the centre-back’s overall progress and get him back up to speed sooner rather than later.
Once he’s back in the capital, Dragusin will resume training at Hotspur Way ahead of Tottenham’s blockbuster North London derby clash with Arsenal in the Premier League on November 23.
