Rafa Silva came off the bench to clinch Benfica’s win at Alvalade on 19 April, a strike that continued his knack for scoring against Sporting and took his tally to four since his winter return. It was certainly his favourite to date.
According to Record, Sporting are the second club he has scored against most, seven goals, with only Arouca conceding more, on eight.
That places Sporting ahead of Paços de Ferreira, Braga and Famalicão, each on six. His last goals at Alvalade before Sunday were a brace in 2019/20.
Andreas Schjelderup struck on 27 minutes. Introduced on 77 minutes, Rafa settled it at 90+3.
The result moved Benfica provisionally into second in Liga Portugal Betclic on 72 points, with Sporting holding a game in hand. Celebrations brought a confused scene on the Benfica bench involving José Mourinho.
