Rafa Silva return would mark rare outlay under Rui Costa at Benfica

Benfica are exploring a possible return for Rafa Silva, a move that would represent a rare outlay in the Rui Costa era.

Record writes that, since 2021, Benfica have added several players aged 30 or over without paying fees. The club may need to pay Besiktas to re-sign the Portuguese, with a figure around five million euros, which would make him only the second over-30 signing to command a multi-million fee under Costa.

The only paid exception so far was Bruma, signed from Braga in winter 2024 for about four and a half million euros. The winger is back in training.

José Mourinho has indicated he wants Rafa Silva in his plans. In recent seasons Benfica have also brought in Jonas, Ángel Di María and captain Nicolás Otamendi.

This season for Besiktas, Rafa Silva has played 16 official matches, 10 in the Süper Lig, four in the Conference League and two in Europa League qualifying. In 1,360 minutes he has five goals and three assists. He is under contract until June 2028.
