Rangers fans are today praying for one more big piece of news from Ibrox. Rangers fans are very much hoping there is one more significant departure from Govan.

Moreoever it’s safe to say the club has wasted a lot of money in recent years. There are so many signings on high wages with little return that fans are a little fed up of seeing it.

Danilo

With Brazil’s Danilo looking a surefire exit before the end of play today, that would open up £40,000pw wages at least till the summer.

But there’s one other high paid waster on Rangers’ payroll who has barely been fit since arriving and who’s been on £30,000pw since summer 2022.

Yes, Rangers fans are expecting to see Rabbi Matondo released by the club via mutual consent.

No one wants Matondo. Deals for him fell through, and the Welshman remains an expensive piece of chafe on the wage roll.

The former Schalke man is about to be mutual consented going by the latest from Govan.

Furthermore this means paying off the rest of his deal, or at least, a sum he is happy to accept.

How much has Matondo cost?

£8M.

Salary

He has cost £1.5M in salary for the three and a half years he’s been here. Aside the Hoffenheim loan, and his transfer fee was around £3M.

Plus he still has 6 months to go, another £750,000 in salary, and Rangers would much rather get him off the bill and be done with it. He would probably be happy with £500,000 and a handshake.

Rabbi Matondo will have cost Rangers north of £8M by the time he leaves.

Comedy

We do know he’s a decent guy, and well-liked by the squad. He is very, very funny. But unfortunately a comic in the dressing room doesn’t translate as worth the cash. £8M is a bit much for a few gags.

This was a Ross Wilson signing, and boy did that guy waste a tonne of cash in his Rangers days.

Matondo alongside Ridvan Yilmaz, Ben Davies and one or two others cost Rangers a hefty lump of money, and Matondo is still costing today.

Mutual consent won’t be cheap, but it’s the only way to get this guy off the payroll which would be big news from Ibrox.

He won’t just do walking away.
