Swansea City have announced that Zan Vipotnik has signed a new contract amid interest from West Ham and Rangers among other clubs.

Swansea City have had a mixed season so far, although there have been clear signs of progress since Vitor Matos arrived at the club.

Whilst not totally out of the question, a top six finish seems highly unlikely, but there will be a demand from the fans that the Swans push for a play-off place in the 2026/27 campaign.

To do that, changes to the playing squad will be required this summer, but one fear that all connected to Swansea would have had may have been eased after it was announced that Zan Vipotnik had signed a new contract with the Welsh club.

Zan Vipotnik signs new Swansea deal amid Rangers & West Ham transfer interest

The Slovenian international has enjoyed a brilliant individual season so far, scoring 17 goals so far, which is the most in the Championship.

Therefore, it’s no surprise that Vipotnik has attracted plenty of interest, with previous reports stating that West Ham and Rangers are among the clubs who are believed to be monitoring the striker.

Of course, this new contract, which runs until 2030, doesn’t mean Vipotnik will definitely stay at Swansea beyond the summer window, but it will be a major relief to the club.

Plus, it only increases his value and strengthens their hand when it comes to negotiations, so it’s a very positive update for the Swans overall.

Zan Vipotnik will be key to Swansea City moving forward

As outlined above, there are no guarantees of anything in football, but this is a strong message for Swansea to send out.

Firstly, they deserve credit for giving their star man a new deal, as he still had two years left on his previous contract, so it’s not like they were in a desperate situation.

All players want to see that they will get rewarded when they do well, and Swansea have done just that with Vipotnik, who clearly merited an improved contract when you look at his performances this season.

This development protects his value, and Swansea will now be in a position to demand a massive sum for the former Bordeaux striker if the likes of West Ham and Rangers do show an interest again in the summer.

But, the main positive for Swansea here is that it shows Vipotnik is happy to stay, and the main objective for the player and the club will be to push for promotion next season.

Clearly, he is one of the standout individuals at this level, and you would imagine that he will guarantee goals next season as well, as he is only 24-years-old, so he is still approaching his peak years, which is an exciting prospect for the Swans.

So, the challenge for Swansea and their recruitment team is to find players on Vipotnik’s level to ensure that they are ready to challenge for the play-offs next season.
