Liam Manning initially enjoyed a strong start in the West Yorkshire club's dugout, earning successive victories over Bradford City, Luton Town, and Peterborough United.

However, Huddersfield were soon knocked out of the EFL Trophy by Doncaster Rovers before enduring back-to-back League One defeats at the hands of Stevenage and Doncaster once again.

The Terriers proved their resilience on Saturday, though, as they defeated Yorkshire rivals Barnsley 2-1 at the Accu Stadium despite David McGoldrick's impressive opening goal for the visitors.

Huddersfield strengthened their grip on a League One play-off place with their triumph over the Tykes, and now have just 12 third-tier games remaining.

Meanwhile, the winter transfer window witnessed the Terriers lose their top scorer, Leo Castledine, as Chelsea recalled the youngster from his loan spell in West Yorkshire and sold him to Championship title challengers Middlesbrough.

In contrast, Manning's men signed former Plymouth Argyle striker Ryan Hardie on loan from Wrexham, and he marked his first home appearance for Town with the winning goal against Barnsley.

Huddersfield will soon turn their attention to the summer transfer window, regardless of whether they clinch promotion back to the Championship.

The Terriers will be keen to bolster their squad in the summer, but Scottish Premiership title challengers Rangers and Hearts are both eyeing Cameron Ashia.

Ashia has been a star performer for the West Yorkshire outfit this season, notching six goals and three assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.

The winger is still just 20 years old, so it is no surprise that clubs in higher calibre divisions than League One are plotting moves for his services ahead of the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, now that two clubs who could be playing in the Champions League next season have eyed Ashia, the Terriers must brace themselves for a period of intense speculation regarding the youngster's future.

Ashia made just one appearance last season, which came in an EFL Trophy defeat to Doncaster.

However, the winger has hit a new level this campaign, which is proven by the fact that he has made 17 appearances in League One, including two starts.

The 20-year-old has been in particularly good form in recent weeks, scoring a late equaliser in a 2-2 comeback draw against Blackpool before notching another goal in the EFL Trophy quarter-final loss to Doncaster.

Ashia proved his worth from the substitutes' bench once again on Saturday, producing the assist for Hardie's winning goal in the previously mentioned win over Barnsley.

Despite being limited to just two starts in the third tier, Ashia has shown that he can have a strong impact in the final third, which has caught the eye of both Hearts and Rangers.

With both the Edinburgh outfit and the Glaswegian side vying to win the Scottish Premiership title this season, their interest in the Huddersfield starlet is a major endorsement of his ability.

Meanwhile, the 20-year-old appears certain to attract more suitors before the end of the campaign.

Therefore, the Terriers may need to clinch promotion to the Championship via the League One play-offs to have any chance of retaining Ashia's services.
