Marcus Rashford has said his farewell to Barcelona after returning to Manchester United for pre-season.
Rashford spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Barcelona and scored 14 goals in all competitions as the Spanish side won La Liga.
Barcelona turned down the chance to sign Rashford despite a £26m purchase option, though the 28-year-old retained hope that a new deal could be negotiated. However, Barcelona’s £69m signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United has complicated a permanent deal.
Rashford has now posted a goodbye message to Barcelona, in an indication that his future lies elsewhere. The England international expressed his gratitude to the Catalan club and wished Barcelona good luck for the upcoming campaign.
“Extremely grateful to everyone at the club for turning my time here into such a positive and unforgettable experience,” he said.
“I’ve loved every moment and will carry those special memories with me. Wishing the club and all the fans the very best of luck and massive success this season. Visca el Barça!”.
Rashford’s future remains unclear, though he will join up with Michael Carrick’s Manchester United side for pre-season. Several Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in a deal, though the Red Devils are reluctant to sell to a domestic rival.
