Rayan Cherki reaches 10 assists in debut Premier League season, first since Dimitri Payet

Rayan Cherki supplied two assists as Manchester City won 3-0 at Chelsea on Sunday. According to L'Équipe, the 22-year-old is the first player to reach 10 assists in his debut Premier League season since Dimitri Payet.

He set up Nico O'Reilly in the 50th minute, then created Marc Guehi's goal in the 57th with a deft outside-of-the-left-foot pass.

The attacking midfielder emulates a feat linked a decade apart between two France internationals. Cherki, with five caps and one goal, joins Dimitri Payet, 39, who earned 38 caps and scored eight, and has recently retired.

Payet finished the 2015-2016 campaign with 12 assists for West Ham.

City have seven league matches left, and Cherki has 13 assists in all competitions, leaving him time to try to surpass that tally.
