Real Oviedo want the suspended trip to Rayo Vallecano settled in the boardroom, not on the pitch, by being awarded the win. Their demand has intensified a power struggle over who decides such cases, LaLiga or the Spanish federation.
According to Superdeporte, Oviedo have filed a formal request to the RFEF to be given three points, alleging breaches of federation rules by LaLiga and Rayo. The club say they will pursue every disciplinary avenue at the RFEF and, if necessary, go to court to defend their sporting rights and fans.
LaLiga maintains that suspending and rescheduling matches in Primera and Segunda División sits within its legal remit, citing recent National Court rulings that clarified competencies. It insists it acted under the applicable regulations, prioritising safety and competitive fairness after the Vallecas pitch was deemed unfit.
Midfielder Santi Cazorla publicly attacked the league, calling its management and responsibility far behind the Premier League, and highlighting the impact on Oviedo’s survival hopes.
The fallout reaches beyond Madrid and Asturias. Corberán’s Valencia are watching because if Rayo take points they would move out of the relegation places at Valencia’s expense.
If the RFEF declines to grant an administrative win, the match would be played on a new date in line with the regulations and calendar. LaLiga and the federation would then coordinate a reschedule, though the legal wrangle could rumble on, potentially into sports or civil courts.
