According to Fabrizio Romano, RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons still dreams of returning to Barcelona, but the player knows that a move this summer is highly improbable.

Despite his desire to don the Blaugrana shirt again, the financial and sporting context makes a reunion difficult at this stage.

Simons, who came through Barça’s famed La Masia academy, moved to Paris Saint-Germain and then later joined RB Leipzig on a permanent deal worth €50 million in January, with an additional €31 million in add-ons.

However, his experience in the Bundesliga has not quite lived up to expectations. As a result, the Dutch international believes it is time to take another step in his career and is open to a new challenge.

Premier League the most viable destination

Leipzig are reportedly willing to sell Simons if a club offers around €75 million, a price tag that immediately puts Barça out of the equation.

The Catalans are still dealing with financial constraints and cannot afford such a significant outlay, especially not this summer.

It must be noted that a few transfer windows ago, Barcelona and then-manager Xavi Hernandez were eager to bring Simons, but PSG refused to entertain a loan offer, insisting on a permanent transfer, something Barcelona simply could not manage.

Despite the setback, Simons has remained in contact with the club’s sporting management and made it clear he wants to return one day.

For now, a move to the Premier League appears to be the most realistic option. Both Chelsea and Manchester United have expressed interest and have the financial muscle to meet Leipzig’s demands.

Barcelona, while continuing to search for a young, attacking midfielder, know they can’t compete with Premier League giants at this point.

Simons’ dream of returning to Barcelona remains alive—but for now, it is one that will have to wait.
