Real Betis have joined the chase for Sunderland striker Eliezer Mayenda, with the forward increasingly likely to seek a summer move. Gianluca Di Marzio reports the La Liga side have entered the race alongside other suitors.

Mayenda wants regular senior football, which currently appears unlikely at the Stadium of Light given Brian Brobbey’s exceptional recent form. Sunderland are understood to respect his wishes and would sanction a departure if the terms are right.

With interest building, Sunderland could make a major profit in cash and SCR terms on the initial fee of just under £one million paid to sign him from Sochaux in summer 2023. That agreement is believed to include a number of performance clauses and a sell-on.

Stade Rennais retain strong interest in the 21-year-old. Claims earlier this week that FC Porto were close to a deal have been disputed in Portugal, though Sunderland are thought to be aware of the Primeira Liga Champions’ interest.

The Andalusian club, coached by Manuel Pellegrini, have tracked the forward for some time. They finished fifth in La Liga last season and will play in the Champions League league phase next term.

While a loan remains possible, Mayenda is thought to prefer a permanent exit at this stage.
