Kylian Mbappé has dominated this World Cup, and Real Madrid fans want to see the same authority in white. Spain play France in the semi-final on Tuesday at 21:00, with Mbappé co-leading the scoring on eight goals.
According to L'Équipe, at the Peña Saeta supporters’ restaurant 10 km south of Madrid, walls are covered with Real icons yet there is no sign of Mbappé, despite him being the attack’s figurehead for two seasons. The owner, Lidice, feels he must do better and win trophies.
At 27, he could take France into a third World Cup final in as many tournaments. His two Madrid seasons have yielded only an Intercontinental Cup, which jars for regulars who see a more commanding version of him with the national team. Jose wants that same on‑pitch authority, the organising and directing of team-mates.
Mbappé still posted 25 La Liga goals, 15 in the Champions League and 42 in 44 matches, yet many in Spain sense France are benefiting from an even stronger striker. Santiago Cañizares argues team dynamics shape output, adding Madrid’s poor collective season, with two managers, made players look worse than with their countries.
Madrid-based Julien Escudé says Mbappé led Real and did his job, and the issues are collective. He notes both Mbappé and Vinicius prefer the left, while France feel more balanced with Dembélé and Olise on the right.
Escudé adds the Vinicius–Mbappé link is not yet fluid, with profiles and hierarchy in play. For France, Mbappé is the clear star, even with Dembélé a Ballon d’Or and Olise exceptional. He believes club leadership will take time, and that progress is already visible.
