Following the meeting that took place between officials of Real Madrid and Como 1907, Fabrizio Romano reports that Los Blancos have activated the €9 million buyback clause for Nico Paz.

The Spanish capital giants sold their academy gem to the Serie A outfit in 2024 while retaining buyback clauses for three years. Having not opted to activate the €8 million option last year, the club have decided to pull the trigger now.

Nico Paz returns… only to leave

Nico Paz has enjoyed a spectacular rise during his two seasons with Como, emerging as one of the most exciting young midfielders across Europe.

Real Madrid had firm plans to re-sign him and reintegrate into the team for the upcoming season, but those plans changed following the arrival of Jose Mourinho as new manager and the subsequent signing of Bernardo Silva.

With Nico having been keen on continuing at Como, and Real Madrid not being in a position to guarantee regular minutes, discussions about his future took centre stage in recent days.

Real Madrid have now decided to activate the buyback option, but only to sell him for a bigger fee and not keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Nico can return to Como

Following the meeting, Real Madrid have offered Como the option of re-signing Nico Paz but for a higher fee of around €60 million.

However, the option is valid only until Monday and the Italian giants will need to make a decision by then.

Both the player and the club remain keen on continuing that partnership, but it does seem unlikely that Cesc Fabregas’ side will splash that much money on his signing.

In that scenario, Real Madrid plan on selling Nico to a different club, but for a sum higher than €60 million than the chance offered to Como.

Inter Milan, for one, have shown a very strong interest in signing the Argentine attacking midfielder, and could decide to swoop in now that the youngster is on the market.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Nico, but his return to Real Madrid will be a brief one.
