In a recent report, The Athletic mentioned that Real Madrid are keeping a keen eye on Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton. It has been stated that Los Blancos are eyeing a move to recruit the English talent next year.
Wharton enjoyed a decent run of form at the London club in the previous campaign after he put in a series of impressive displays for them in the Premier League. The English talent made 27 appearances for the Eagles last season, securing two assists in multiple competitions.
The 21-year-old anchored the midfield well for Crystal Palace as he made 34 tackles, 11 blocks, 20 interceptions and 27 clearances in the Premier League. He even distributed the ball accurately from midfield, based on his pass completion rate of 75.6% in the English first division (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at Selhurst Park will run out in the summer of 2029, which could make it tough for Los Blancos to snap him up on the cheap next year.

Wharton loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his side at the centre of the park. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is a tidy distributor of the ball as well. Wharton is primarily a holding midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder if required.
The English youngster has already proven his worth in the Premier League. However, the jury is still out on whether he can maintain his good form in La Liga if Los Blancos manage to secure his services next year.
Wharton would undoubtedly bring more bite and steel to Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso’s midfield department. He is good enough to compete for a regular first-team spot at the Madrid club in the coming years.
At 21, the future looks quite bright for Wharton as long as he continues to improve with each year. Thus, it makes sense for the Madrid giants to go all out to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium this January or at the end of this campaign. Wharton could even help Los Blancos compete for some major honours over the next decade. All in all, Alonso should focus on recruiting him next year.
