In a recent report, Fichajes revealed that Real Madrid are locked in a three-way battle for Bayern Munich star Dayot Upamecano. It is understood that Los Blancos are facing competition from Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United in the race to sign the France international on a free transfer next summer.
Upamecano had a solid campaign at the Munich club as he put in a string of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The French centre-back featured in 38 matches for Bayern Munich last season in various competitions.
The 26-year-old was a rock at the back after he made 36 tackles, 17 blocks, 34 interceptions and 45 clearances in the Bundesliga. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from inside his half, based on his pass completion rate of 93.9% in top-flight football (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the German club will run out at the end of this campaign, which could open the door for Los Blancos to sign him on a free transfer next summer.

Upamecano is a good tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his side on the defensive end of the pitch. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is a good passer of the ball as well.
Standing at 1.86m, the French sensation can use his strong frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his team. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga if Real Madrid manage to get him on board
We can expect Upamecano to bring more quality and depth to Los Blancos head coach Xabi Alonso’s backline. He is good enough to fight for regular first-team football at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
At 26, Upamecano has his best years ahead of him. Thus, he would be well worth the fight. All in all, Alonso should focus on going all out to bring the French defensive ace to the Spanish capital this January or at the end of this season.
