Real Madrid were briefly credited with an interest in Mason Greenwood during last season when the 22-year-old was on loan at Getafe from Manchester United.

Nothing really came of it in the end and the English forward signed for Marseille in Ligue 1 this past summer in a deal worth around £26 million.

Since moving to France, the former Manchester United man is thriving under manager Roberto De Zerbi, already registering five goals and an assist from just four games.

Real Madrid, Barcelona among clubs paying close attention

As such, it appears to have caught the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs with journalist Graeme Bailey reporting that Real Madrid and Barcelona are both closely watching Greenwood’s progression at Marseille.

Apart from the two La Liga behemoths, French champions PSG as well German bigwigs Bayern Munich are also said to be interested in the 22-year-old Englishman.

With his five goals this season, Greenwood is currently the top goalscorer in Ligue 1 and is only behind Erling Haaland on the list of the highest scorers in Europe’s top five leagues.

Manchester United, for their part, are understood to be watching the situation closely as they have a sell-on clause worth around 50% for Greenwood, meaning any sale would fetch them a hefty profit.

The Red Devils also have a buyback option for their academy product but are not considering utilising it as things stand.

As mentioned earlier, Real Madrid held a brief interest in Greenwood, but considering their attacking riches at present, it is unlikely that any move for the 22-year-old will be explored by Los Blancos.

However, if Greenwood, who is contracted with Marseille until the summer of 2029, continues in the same vein of form, it may not come as a surprise to see one of the elite clubs make a move for him in the near future.
