After over 40 days sidelined due to injury, Dani Ceballos is finally back on the pitch and eager to contribute to Real Madrid’s push for both La Liga and the Copa del Rey.
While his return has been a welcome development for Carlo Ancelotti, it appears the Italian manager is not fully convinced by the midfielder’s current level of performance.
According to a report from Defensa Central, Ancelotti and his staff feel “he is not the same as when he was injured; he still needs a bit more time,” following his first start since recovering, which came against Athletic Club yesterday.
The evaluation from within the Madrid camp is that while the midfielder is improving and he still needs time to regain his sharpness and match rhythm.
The timing of this concern could not be more significant, with Real Madrid preparing for a crucial El Clasico against Barcelona in a few days.

Ancelotti must decide whether to include Ceballos in the starting XI or opt for more physically prepared players, especially given the intensity and stakes of a match that could heavily influence the title race.
Ceballos, however, remains determined to prove himself. Reports suggest he is mentally and physically pushing hard in training, desperate to return to a regular role in the starting lineup.
His creativity in midfield could be valuable for Madrid during a packed end-of-season schedule.
But Ancelotti’s trust is hard-earned, and at this point in the season, the manager is unlikely to make major tactical shifts unless absolutely necessary.
Madrid are entering a critical stretch in which squad depth will be tested, and Ceballos knows he must be ready to take his chance if it comes.
Whether that is from the start against Barcelona or as an impact player off the bench, his performances in the coming weeks could determine his long-term future at the club.
