Real Madrid’s dream run in La Liga under Alvaro Arbeloa came to an abrupt halt when the team succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of CA Osasuna.

Speaking to the press after the game, Arbeloa cut a dejected figure as the loss now means Barcelona will have the opportunity to regain top spot in the league table.

Following a disjointed performance in Pamplona, the Spanish coach has reportedly taken full accountability and offered his private self-criticism to club president Florentino Perez, reports Defensa Central.

Arbeloa’s phone call to Perez

Perez did not travel to El Sadar for the weekend fixture but closely watched the match.

The report, citing sources close to the president, suggests he was left extremely angry by both the final result and the team’s overall poor display.

Seeking immediate explanations, Perez initiated phone contact with several members of the Real Madrid delegation present at the stadium.

While Arbeloa and Perez did not speak directly to one another, the manager ensured his profound apologies were clearly relayed through these immediate phone conversations.

Arbeloa openly admitted to the delegation that the team’s performance was “very poor” and firmly took the blame for the errors that cost them the game. The manager enumerated a specific list of mistakes he made on the night.

Attempting to rotate the squad with the upcoming Champions League fixture against SL Benfica in mind, Arbeloa acknowledged making critical errors in his defensive lineup, his in-game substitutions, and the overall structural positioning of certain players.

He pointed out that despite a strong opening 15 minutes characterised by intense high pressing that successfully pinned Osasuna back, the squad’s energy levels drastically plummeted.
